Mata Amritanandamayi Math is a charitable society situated at
Amritapuri near Vallikavu. It was started in 1981 with an objective of serving humanity without distinction of caste, race and religion. It is the residence of Matha Amritanandamayi Devi, a great spiritual personality. The
ashram strictly follows all traditional rules of an austere, ashram life.
The Ashram routines begin daily at 5 am with Vedic chants, followed by Lalita Sahasranamam (the 1000 names of the Divine Mother), Ganapathi homa, meditation, bhajans and spiritual discourses and scriptural classes by monastic members. In addition to the daily one and half hour devotional singing, Amma's simple yet lively talks constitute the main attraction of the ashram.
The accommodation package includes rooms and dormitories and vegetarian meals three times a day. There is a canteen, bookstall, ayurvedic products counter, general store, cloakroom and a cafe and separate canteen for foreigners. A charitable hospital, public telephone booth, an extension counter of the Dhanalakshmi Bank and Amritapuri Post Office function in the premises of the ashram.
Video and audio recording is strictly prohibited in Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
Mata Amritanandamayi Math is located between the Arabian Sea and Kerala's famous backwaters. Taxis and auto-rickshaws ply between the ashram and Kayamkulam. The nearest airport is the Trivandrum International Airport.
