Main Central Road or the M C Road, as it is popularly known, links the state capital,
Thiruvananthapuram with
Angamaly in
Ernakulam District. The M C Road spans across the districts of
Thiruvananthapuram,
Kollam,
Alappuzha,
Pathanamthitta,
Kottayam and
Ernakulam and touches some major cities and towns on the way. The M C Road, which is 240 km long, is the longest among the state highways in
Kerala.
M C Road starts in Thiruvananthapuram city limits and runs north touching Kesavadasapuram, Venjaramoodu and Kilimanoor before entering Kollam District past Thattathumala.
In Kollam, Kuriyod, Ayoor, Kottarakara and Mylom are the major towns that lie along the M C Road. The highway enters Pathanamthitta District after passing Kulakkada.
In Pathanamthitta, Kadika is the first major settlement one would come across while traveling along the state highway. The M C Road runs north-west in the district through Adoor, Kurampatta, Pandalam and Thiruvalla, chords the eastern tip of Alappuzha District, before re-entering Pathanamthitta; Chengannur is a major town that lie along the M C Road in Alappuzha District. On its way north, the highway again touches a portion of Alappuzha District before entering Kottayam.
In Kottayam District, Changanassery is the first major settlement that lie along the M C Road. Going north, the highway touches Kottayam, Ettumanoor and Kuruvalangad before entering Ernakulam District past Kulasekaramangalam.
In Ernakulam, the M C Road passes north touching Koothattukulam and Arakulam to reach Muvattupuzha on National Highway 49. Beyond Muvattupuzha, the highway turns north-west and runs through Kizhillam, Perumbavoor and Kalady before terminating at Angamaly on National Highway 47.
