Tali Temple, dedicated to
Lord Shiva, is located near Manachira, in
Kozhikode of
Kerala. Tali Temple was built by Swami Thirumulpad (Zamorin) within his palace complex in the 14th century.
Built of wood and laterite, this temple is a rare example of Kerala style of architecture. A beautiful image depicting the momentous event of the Mahabharat battle can be seen in the sanctum. Formerly during the reign of Zamorins, Tali Temple was the venue of Revathi Pattathanam - an annual competition of pedagogic skills.
The central shrine of Lord Shiva is quadrangle in shape and the Shivling found here is 2 ft high. There are three rooms within the temple, with a number of excellent stone sculptures.
A major draw is the annual festival that lasts for seven days.
