Iringal, on the southern bank of Moorad River, is famous as the birth place of the great admiral Kunjali Marikkar. He commanded the
Zamorin’s fleet and the colonial aspirations of the Portuguese, on the Calicut coast, were thwarted by him for a long period. The birth place is preserved by the archeological department.
Iringal is situated 39 km north of Kozhikode.
