Located in
Palakkad District of
Kerala, Chittur is 15 km southeast of
Palakkad.
The town is famous for the Kongappa festival, celebrated every year on the first Monday after the dark lunar night in the month of Kumbham (February and March). Tunchath Acharyamadom is located here and is believed to have been founded by Tunchath Ramanujan Ezhuthassan, the father of
Malayalam literature. The town is a major center of kora-grass mat making in Palakkad District.
Coimbatore Airport is 40 km north-east. Nearest major railhead is Palakkad Junction Railway Station.
Kollengode Railway Station on the Palakkad-Madurai meter gauge line is another railhead nearby.
