The oldest European fort built in India, Pallipuram Fort is situated at the northern extremity of the
Vypeen Island. Built in 1503 by the
Portuguese, it was captured by the
Dutch in 1661 and the Dutch sold it to the State of Travancore in 1789.
Ferry services operate from Fort Kochi and Ernakulam to Vypeen. There are frequent buses from the town of Vypeen to Pallipuram.
