Kanniyarkali, also known as Deshathukali, is a popular folk dance of
kerala. It consists of 6-20 performers, and is usually played during March-April in Bhagavathy temples of
Palakkad region.
The performance lasts for four days, and each day’s performance is known by different names: Iravakali, Anadikoothu, Vallon and Malama
This dance is played to the fast beats of Edakka, Cymbal and Chenda, and is accompanied by devotional folk songs.
