Kallummel Kallu




Situated near Thookupalam in Idukki District is the picturesque hill station Kallummel Kallu. The main attraction here is the Kattilu Kallu (a vast rock in the shape of a cot). The Kallummel Kallu, meaning one rock over another, (the place is known by this name), is an egg-shaped rock over a round one.

Legend has it that, Bhima with the other Pandavas rested here during their sojourn in the forest. And it is told that Kattilu Kallu was used by Bhima. Other attractions are the Koompanpara temple, a cemetery and the rusted remains of iron swords.

Kallummel Kallu can be approached from Thookupalam on foot. Buses on the Kumily- Kattappana route can take one to Puliyanmala. Taxis are also available to Thookupalam from here. Lodging facilities are available at Thookupalam.
