Ezhimala is a beautiful village located in
Kannur District of
Kerala. It is about 55 km from
Kannur. The main attraction is the
Ezhimala Beach. Ezhimala is also significant as it boasts one of the largest naval academies of India.
The carved stone pillars, an ancient burial chamber and an ancient cave at the foot of the Ezhimala hillock are other points of interest in Ezhimala. An ancient mosque on the hill is another draw. Ashtamachal temple, Madayi Kavu Temple and Kunhimangalam are nearby tourist destinations which are worth visiting.
A flourishing seaport and center of trade in ancient Kerala, Ezhimala was one of the major battlefields of the Chola-Chera war of the 11th century.
Ezhimala can be reached easily as it is between Payyanur and Payangadi road route. Ezhimala Railway Station on the Kannur-Payyanur railway line, managed by the Southern Railways, serves this place.
