The Mosque at
Erumeli in
Kottayam District is dedicated to Vavar, a companion of
Lord Ayyappa, a Hindu deity. Every year a large gathering of Hindu pilgrims worship at this mosque before their trek to
Sabarimala to worship Lord Ayyappa. The 'Chandanakkudam' festival of the mosque and the 'Makaravilakku' festival of Sabarimala are celebrated here on the same day in the month of January every year. This is an important festival, which give-off the spirit of Hindu-Muslim unity.
