Located 66 km from
Kochi, Alappuzha is a little town interlocked by many canals and bridges. It is the headquarters of
Alappuzha District, the 'Venice of the East'. In addition to being one among the most popular backwater sites, Alappuzha is also a major center for the coir industry. A network of canals run through the town and a major attraction is the long sandy beach.

The town is famous for its boat race, the main sport of the people in the region. During August-September people from far and near throng to the town to participate in the famous

Bokaro. The railway station is 5 km from the bus station and ferry station. Frequent ferry services are available to nearby cities.
