Thanneermukkom village is situated around 5 km east of
Cherthala in
Alappuzha District and is on the western banks of
Vembanad Lake.
The place is famous for the Thanneermukkom Salt Water Barrier, popularly known as Thanneermukkom Bund, constructed as part of the Kuttanad Development Scheme. The largest mud regulator in India, Thanneermukkom Bund is erected across Vemband Lake between Thanneermukkom and Vechur to prevent tidal action and intrusion of salt water.
A boat trip through the Thanneermukkom saline water proves to be an unforgettable experience for the tourists.
