Chengannur is a beautiful town located at the extreme east part of
Alappuzha District, 117 km from the state capital of
Thiruvananthapuram. Steeped in history, this old business town was once a quaint burgh with 'smoke filled skies and rich lush vegetation.'
Chengannur, bordering the Pathanamthitta District, is one of the fastest developing business centers in the state. The sacred river Pamba traverses the town. Parthasarathi Temple, located on the banks of Pamba, is a famous Hindu pilgrim center. The Aranmula Boat Race, organised in the waters of the Pamba on the last day of Onam, is a major draw. The Parumala Church and Maramon, the seat of the mammoth religious convention for Christians, are all nearby.
Chengannur can be accessed by road, rail and water transport. Thiruvalla is 10 km north-west of Chengannur.
