Bekal is situated about 15 km south of
Kasargod, north
Kerala. It is an important tourist center and health resort of the state. The prime attraction is the giant key hole shaped
Bekal Fort, largest fort in Kerala. Near to the fort, there is an old mosque, built by the valiant
Tipu Sultan of
Mysore. The Government of India has selected Bekal as one of the five centers to be made as 'Special Tourism Area.'
The expanse of beautiful beach surrounding the fort, backwaters, hill destinations and water sport facilities nearby gives an ideal place for picnickers. Chandragiri Fort, 10 km north of Bekal, is another attraction. Other areas of interest nearby are Pallikere Beach, Bekal Hole Aqua Park, Kappil Beach, Chandragiri Cruise, Anandashram, Ananthapura Lake Temple, Valiyaparamba backwaters and Ranipuram.
