Kodiyettam is a ritual performed in the temples, churches and mosques, which mark the beginning of a festival in
Kerala. The term kodiyettam means flag hoisting. There are flag posts (Kodimaram) in the premises of the worship places to perform this ceremonious flag hoisting. The flag posts in most of the temples have a unique architecture.
