Situated 826 m above sea level in
Shimoga District, Agumbe is known as the
Cherrapunji of south India, as the average rainfall here is very high. The place is blessed with dense lush green forests, small stream and ghats. It is also famous for its fascinating sunset, which is best viewed during November to January.
Prime attractions in the town are Shivling, Achakanya Falls, Vanake-Abbe Falls, Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary, Gopalkrishna Temple, and the Observatory maintained by the Meteorological Survey of India.
Agumbe is on the Mangalore-Shimoga road and is 56 km from Sringeri.
