Sakrebayalu is placed 15 km from
Shimoga on the way to Thirthahalli in
Karnataka. It is one of the oldest elephant breeding and training centers in India. The people living in Sakrebayalu are traditionally mahouts for the maharajas of
Mysore and now work for the Karnataka forest department to tame and guide elephants.
