Sri Ranganatha Temple is one of the prime attractions in
Srirangapatna of
Karnataka. Built during the rule of the
Vijayanagar emperors in the 9th century, the shrine is noted for its exquisite carvings and beautiful architecture in
Hoysala style. Lord Ranganatha - an incarnation of
Lord Vishnu - is the presiding deity here. The idol of Lord Ranganatha is seen in sleeping posture on Kalinga – the seven-headed serpent.
Hyder Ali is believed to have made endowments to the temple. A major draw is a festival held here during January.
