Adichunchanagiri Peacock Sanctuary




Located in Mandya District, Adichunchanagiri peacock sanctuary is covered with scrub forest and plantations. The altitude here varies from 770 - 1000 m. The sanctuary was established with the specific purpose of protecting the peacock. Other fauna seen here includes bonnet macaque, fruit bat, jungle cat, common mongoose and hare. A wide variety of birds and butterflies are found in the park. Rare species of yellow-throated bulbul is seen here. Chunchanagiri temple and pilgrim centre are nearby. A forest rest house is available inside the sanctuary. Another rest house of the Public Works Department is there near the temple.

Accessibility via road is from Bangalore to Nagmangala (90 km) and then 26 km on to the sanctuary, via Nelligere.
