After the reign of Chamaraja Wodeyar (1617 - 1637), His Highness Sri Ranadhira Kantirava Narasaraja Wodeyar ascended the throne in 1638. He reigned for twenty one years from 1638 to 1659.
During Ranadhira Wodeyar's time, Bijapur Shah attacked Mysore. After the war numerous economic reforms was introduced. Coinage was first introduced by him in Wodeyar dynasty. He also built strategic forts at Srirangapatna and Mysore.
