Located in
Koppal District of
Karnataka, Munirabad is a town on
National Highway 63 between
Ginigera and
Hospet. It is 13 km east of
Koppal and 37 km west of Hospet. It was earlier known as 'Huligi.'
Steeped in history, the place is still called as 'Huligi' by some people. An edict of AD 1088 obtained from here shows that the place was given to Chowedibhatta by Chanukaya Thilokya Malla. Chowedibhatta built a canal from Tungabhadra River to irrigate the crops. Later Tungabhadra Dam was constructed on this spot. Hampi, the UNESCO certified heritage site, lies close to Munirabad.
Hubli Airport is the nearest airport. Munirabad Railway Station is on the Koppal-Hospet rail line.
