A historical town in
Gadag District of
Karnataka, Mulgund is 20 km south of
Gadag town. The place is well known for Trikut Basdi.
Mulgund derived its name from 'Muni Vrinda' which means group of saints. Earlier the place served as Brahmin Agrahara (agrahara means residence) under Jain kings. Three inscriptions of 11th and 12th century were excavated from here. These inscriptions were written in Kannada language and belonged to the Rashtrakuta Dynasty.
Shirhatti (6 km east) is a nearby town.
Hubli Airport, 48 km north-west, is the nearest airport. The closest railhead is
Gadag Junction Railway Station.
