Bahubali is the son of the first Jain
Tirthankar, King Rishabha ( Adinath.) He is also known as Gomateshwara and Gomata.
Tradition tells that Bahubali fought and defeated his brother, King Bharata. After this, he decided to give up his kingdom and lead the life of an ascetic by doing penance in the forest. Thus he attained salvation. The story of Lord Bahubali finds a place in the sixth section of the Jain scriptures.
