Situated at an altitude of 1800 ft above sea level, Mundgod is a taluk in
Uttara Kannada District. Mundgod is famous as one of the settlements for the Tibetan refugees. The Doeguling Tibetan Settlement situated at Tattihalli in Mundgod was established in 1966. This is one of the few refugee settlements for exiled Tibetans in south India. Tibetans and a small number of Indians co-inhabit here and predominantly rely on agricultural production to support their living. The places to visit here include a monastery, a carpet center and a clinic dispensing Tibetan Medicine.
Mundgod is about 267 miles north of Bylakuppe and about 32 miles south of Hubli, the nearest railway station. Hubli, 420 km north of Bangalore, is on the Bangalore-Pune National Highway.
