Shankaranarayana Village is located 32 km to the east of
Kundapura in
Karnataka. Shankaranarayana is also called Krodha Kshetra based on the legend that a sage named Krodha performed penance here. It is one of the seven places of pilgrimage mentioned in the
Skanda Purana. The word Shankaranarayana suggests
Shiva and
Vishnu.
Located near the Western Ghats, Shankaranarayana is also famous for its Shankaranarayana temple. The temple has a beautiful bronze image of Harihara and some fine wood carvings. Shankaranarayana Jaatre is the most celebrated festival at Shankaranarayana.
