Heggunda Shri Ram Temple is located in the small sleepy village of Heggunda in
Tumkur District of
Karnataka. The presiding deity of the temple is
Lord Ram, the seventh incarnation of
Lord Vishnu.
The flagmast in front of the Heggunda Shri Ram Temple has a mythological importance. Tradition recounts that Lord Ram, after conducting his Ashwamedha Yaga in his intensive travel with the horse, tied the horse, Haya, to this flag mast. After this incident the place came to be known as Hayagunda which in course of time changed to Heggunda.
