Located in
Uttara Kannada District of
Karnataka, Kumta, on the coast of
Arabian Sea, has been an important education and trading center since the early 20th century. Kumta is 200 km north of
Mangalore and 70 km
south of
Goa.
Shri Venkatraman Dev Temple and Hodbandur Beach can be visited. The confluence of Aghanashini River (north of Kumta) at Arabian Sea is another attraction. Yana, a pilgrim center famous for massive black rock formations and nature trails, is 25 km away. Gokarna, a pilgrim place for Hindus, is 32 km from Kumta. Mallapur, a sanctified village, is 10 km away.
The nearest airport is at Mangalore.
Kumta Railway Station is on the Konkan Railway. National Highway 17 passes through Kumta.
