Gayatri Reservoir

Gayatri Reservoir is an ideal weekend getaway located in Chitradurga District of Karnataka. This little known and small reservoir of the district is about 160 feet in length. H H Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, the then Governor of Mysore state, laid the foundation in 1951 and it took nearly ten years to complete the work. Water stored in this dam is mainly used for irrigating the surrounding lands. This scenic spot is also an ideal destination for bird watching.

Gayatri Reservoir can be reached from Sira and Hiriyur. The town of Javanagondanahalli, on National Highway 4, is 6 km away.

Vanivilas Reservoir, 20 km from Hiriyur, is another picnic spot nearby.
