Kengal Betta is a steep, hilly area situated close to Shivagange, 60 km from
Bangalore. The ruins of a fort built by the feudal lords at the instance of Kempegowda are seen around this place.
Kengal Betta can be climbed only from northern side, where one can see the imposing height of the hill. There is a mandapa at the top, where trekkers can rest. A small idol of the
divine bull is installed at the top of the peak.
Many fossils and remnants of ancient civilization such as pieces of pottery and other vessels are reported to have been discovered in the fields of this place. Visitors with an adventurous spirit and an explorer’s instinct find this region a haven.
The Siddara Gavi at the base of the hill adds beauty to this place. Trekking enthusiasts are advised to carry refreshments with them since the place is quite isolated.
