Chand Bibi (1547-1599) was the daughter of Hussain Nizam Shah of Ahmadnagar, was married to Ali Adil Shah of Bijapur. In AD 1580 after her husband was murdered she became the regent of her husband's nephew and ruled with great prudence and intelligence.
She took on the mantle of her motherland Ahmadnagar at a precarious time. Despite her best efforts affairs in Bijapur and Ahmadnagar continued to go from bad to worse, owing to the mutual jealousies of the nobles, till Akbar annexed it and made it a part of the Mughal Empire in AD 1599. She was killed by the rebels.
