Udgir




Udgir is one of the prominent towns located in Latur District of Maharashtra. One of the taluk headquarters of the district, the town entices the visitors by its historic importance. Udgir is about 60 km east of Latur.

The town witnessed the historic battle between Marathas and Nizam in 1759, in which Marathas won and marched to famous historical battle of Panipat in 1761.

Udgir was named after the famous Hindu Saint Udaygiri Rishi. The place is famous for its cattle markets. The most important cattle breed Deoni hails from here.

A well built fort, the Udgir Fort, of Pre-Bahamani age is a prime attraction here. Excursions to Aurad, Ausa, Nilanga and Bhalki will be an enchanting experience.

Udgir has a railway station on the Parli-Bidar rail route. By road, Udgir is well connected with Belshakarga (9 km), Karkheli (10 km), Latur (60 km) and Nanded (88 km.)
