Neminath is the 22nd
tirthankar out of the total 24 Jain Tirthankaras. His real name was Nemikumar. He was born to Samudravijay, a yadava prince, and Shivadevi.
Neminath’s marriage was proposed to Rajul, daughter of Ugrasen - the king of Junagadh. But before the marriage ceremony Neminath heard some frightful shrieks and crying sounds. On inquiring, Neminath came to know about the much violence being caused on account of his wedding. Suddenly he decided to avoid getting married and to renounce the worldly life and thus started for Girnar lonely. He got enlightenment on the 56th day of renunciation. After performing severe austerities, he attained Kevalgnan (omniscience).
Jain Tirthankaras are generally identified by their symbols; conch is the emblem of Lord Neminath.
