Anegudde Vinayaka Temple

Anegudde Vinayaka Temple is an ancient shrine situated at Kumbasi, about nine kilometers south of Kundapura, in Udupi District. The temple situated on the hill enshrines Lord Ganesh as the presiding deity.

Anegudde is the combination of two words - 'Aane' meaning Elephant and 'Gudde', which stands for 'hillock'. The hillock, being the abode of the elephant god, Lord Ganesh, justifies its name.

The main sanctum enshrines the magnificent idol of Lord Ganesh, resplendent in silver armor, in a standing posture. The deity is represented with four hands, out of which two are ‘varada hasta’ indicating his inclination to grant boons. Two hands point to his feet, as a means to salvation. Several sculptural depictions from the Bhargava Purana can be seen all around the shrine.

Tulabharam is the main offering of the temple. The temple also hosts auspicious ceremonies such as wedding and naming ceremony.

Ganesh Chaturthi is the major festival celebrated here amid much pomp and splendor.

Anegudde Vinayaka Temple is about 100 km from Mangalore. The temple can be approached by National Highway 17. It is on the way to Kundapur from Udupi, between Kota and Koteshwara.
