Dhanbad District of
Jharkhand covers an area of 2,995 sq km. It is bounded by
Giridih and
Bokaro District in the west,
Dumka District in the north and
Purulia District of
West Bengal in the east and south. Major rivers are
Damodar, Katri and
Barakar.
Paddy is the main crop. Wheat and oilseeds are also grown. The mining town of
Dhanbad is famous for rich coal fields. There is a fertilizer and chemical industry and a super phosphate factory. The other important industries are firebricks industries, glass industry and cement plants. Chark Khurd, Charak Pathar,
Chati Gobindpur,
Gopalpur, Maithan, Meva, Panchet Dam and
Panrra are the tourist destinations.
