Kanke, a small village is situated in
Ranchi District of
Jharkhand. This place is the location of one of the largest mental asylums in the country, the Kanke Mental Asylum. This shelter for mentally retarded people was started by the British who thought that the cooler climate of Ranchi would be conducive to mental health.
Kanke Dam, a large water reservoir to supply water to Ranchi City, is situated in this village. The Rock Garden is in close vicinity.
