Broke up from the erstwhile Santhal Pargana District in 1988, Godda is a district located in the north-eastern part of
Jharkhand. Godda District is encircled by the districts of
Sahibganj in the east,
Pakaur in the south-east,
Dumka in the south, and
Banka and
Bhagalpur districts of
Bihar in the west and north respectively. The district headquarters is at
Godda.
Presently, Godda District comprises of eight blocks and 2311 villages. The main places in the district are
Madhupur,
Jarmundi, Poreyahat, Godda, Dhuraiya and Chakai. With an area of 2,110 sq km, Godda District has a population of over 1 million. Agriculture is the main livelihood of the people in this district. The major crops grown here are
wheat, paddy and
maize. Other crops cultivated are linseed,
khesari and vegetables.
Godda District is well connected by road and rail networks with the neighboring districts.
