Palamu Tiger Reserve




Palamu Tiger Reserve is located at Betla in Palamu District, Jharkhand. It was brought under Project Tiger in 1973, and is one of the first nine tiger reserves in the country. Betla is about 25 km from Daltonganj.

Spread over an area of 928 sq km, the sanctuary is noted for its flora and fauna. It is a part of the Betla National Park. Among the predators, in addition to more than 45 tigers, are wild dogs, jungle cats, four horned antelope and jungle cats. The flora constitutes medicinal herbs, bamboo and scattered open grassy patches.

The rivers such as Koel and Burha flow through the reserve.

The nearest airport is at Ranchi, 180 km away. Daltonganj Railway Station is the closest railhead.
