Bokaro is the administrative headquarters of
Bokaro District,
Jharkhand. It is located on the southern bank of
Damodar River. It is hemmed by the high ranges of
Parasnath Hill on the north and the Satanpur hillocks on the south.
Dhanbad is 55 km east of Bokaro.
Bokaro city is the site of a large government-owned steel plant, started in 1978. The city was built to provide housing and other community facilities for the employees of the steel plant.
Major tourist attraction is the well-maintained City Park with an artificial lake. Recently created three artificial islands add its charm.
Ranchi, the state capital, is 85 km south-west. Ranchi Airport is the closest airport. Bokaro Thermal Railway Station and Bokaro Steel City Railway Station serve Bokaro.
