Zalung Karpo La is situated at a height of about 5100 m, in
Ladakh,
Leh District of
Jammu and Kashmir. There is a ridge connecting the pass to a smaller pass and then down to the valley and Sorra Valley. The landscape is fine with snow-capped mountains, dull rock-faces, dry hills and deep gorges. The southern slope of the pass is completely free of snow. It is one among the three passes on the way from
Hemis Gompa to Pang. The pass offers a bird’s-eye view of the
Karnak region. This is the highest pass on the way to Rupsho plains via
Markha Valley.
