Thiksey Monastery is a magnificent Buddhist monastery, situated about 20 km from
Leh, in
Jammu and Kashmir. It is an outstanding example of Ladakhi architecture. It is situated on top of a hill and forms part of Gelukpa order.
Thiksey Monastery is a 12 storied complex containing numerous stupas, statues, Thangkas, wall paintings, swords and a large pillar engraved with Buddha’s teachings. The main prayer hall has a 15 m high seated Buddha figure.
Thiksey Festival is celebrated here amid much pomp and splendor.
The nearest airport is at Leh. For local transport, taxis and jeeps are available from Leh.
