Doda, the seat of administration of
Doda District, is a beautiful town situated 150 km south-east of
Jammu. Its original name was Deeda, after a utensil manufacturer who set up a utensil factory here. The present name of the town is a corruption of ‘Deeda’.
Its snow capped mountain peaks are ideal trekking destinations while the numerous pilgrim centers that dots its cityscape are visited by pilgrims from all over the state. Places of tourist interest include Amar Mahal Museum, Dogra Art Museum, Bahu Fort, Bhadarwah and Ghajpat Quila.
Nearest airport and railway station are at Jammu.
National Highway 1B passes through Doda.
