Budhal is a small town, located on the southern range of Peer Panchal, in
Rajouri District of
Jammu and Kashmir. The place is situated about 25 km from the Sedhu Pass.
The place, with its snow-capped peaks, thick forests, gushing streams, crystal clear lakes, meadows and pastures, presents a charming portrait of nature’s splendor at work. Most of the trekkers use this spot as a base-camp and track from the Peer Panchal range via Sedhu Pass towards Kashmir.
Legend says that the town was established in the 10th century by the Paul Shahi Raja - Budh Paul. He named this town as Budhiwasa, later which got changed to Budhal. Kalhana, the great poet-historian of ancient Kashmir, has mention about this town in his Rajtrangni as 'Budhiwasa' (place of intellectuals).
By motor-able road, Budhal is well connected with Rajouri and Gulabgarh.
