Loran, formerly known as Loran Kote, is a small village, located at the base of lofty mountains of
Pir Panjal Range, in
Poonch District of
Jammu and Kashmir. It is about 35 km from
Poonch.
Loran was once the capital of Poonch state under Hindu rulers till 1542 AD. The Loran Kote Fort was once called Gateway of Kashmir and today only the ruins of the fort are found.
Loran Nallah which flows through this village presents an imposing sight. Nandi Shool Waterfall, a famous picnic spot, is about 12 km away.
