Lohri, also known as Maghi, is a traditional mid-winter festival. It is held in the month of January, and is celebrated throughout
Himachal Pradesh.
The festival primarily linked with the harvesting of Rabi crops, and commemorates the last sowing of this crop.
On this occasion, the harvested fields and front yards are lit up with bonfires, and friends and relatives gather around it. Folk songs and dancing are the other accompaniments of the festival.
It is a time of amusement for children, who go from house to house collecting money and sweets. Finally, they throw all these collected items into the bonfire.
