Shanti Stupa is located above
Changspa, about 3 km from the Fort Road, in
Leh District,
Jammu and Kashmir. This stupa was built by a ‘Peace Sect’ of Japanese Buddhists with the intension of spreading
Buddhism throughout the world. The stupa was opened by Dalai Lama in 1985.
The sides of the stupa are garnished with gilt panels depicting episodes from the life of Buddha. The panoramic view of the chain of mountains, the typical Ladakhi houses built along a gushing stream of Changspa and the towering Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, will be an enchanting experience.
The place is connected by a motor-able road and can be reached by car. On foot one has to climb a steep flight of 500 steps to reach the stupa.
