Saltoro River

Saltoro River, which successively drains into the Indus River in Ladakh region, is a tributary of the Hughe River.

The river originates as two main streams namely the north-western main stream and the north-eastern main stream from glaciers at the base of the Saltoro Kangri peak in Ladakh. The former one meanders towards the south-east and then turns south-west to merge with the latter stream, which flows towards the north-west.

The entire valley of this river has been engraved out of glaciers. Along the river, deposits of moraines brought down by ancient glaciers are found. The entire catchment area is devoid of a vegetative cover and human habitation. During late summer the water level in the river increases.
