Kanika Stupa lies in the backyard of the
Sani Monastery at
Sani in
Kargil District. This
stupa is related to the famous Indian yogi from Vikramsila, named Naropa. It is believed that this saint meditated for some time under the stupa.
Currently, the site contains a veiled bronze figure of the Yogi in a small room. This figure is unveiled once a year in late July. During this occasion, a two day festival is also celebrated. Lots of people from far and near gather here and monks from Bardan Monastery perform mask dances as a ritual offering.
