Hunza River

Hunza River, a tributary of the Gilgit River, originates as the Khunjerab from a glacier north of the Karakoram Range, in the north-western part of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir.

Initially, Hunza River meanders towards south-east and cuts across the Karakoram Range through a spectacular gorge. During in its middle course, the river follows a south-western direction. Finally it cuts across an offshoot of the range and changes course to the south-east in its lower course before merging with the Gilgit River.

The major feeder streams of the Hunza River are Chapursain, Ghujerab and Shimshal rivers.
