Narsingh Ji Temple is located at
Ghagwal near
Hiranagar in
Kathua District of
Jammu and Kashmir. The temple is dedicated to
Narasimha. The temple dates back over 1600 years ago.
The deity here is seen in three forms – Narasimha avatar, Narasimha roop and Annapurna, which are located together at Narsingh Temple. The temple also houses the Samadhi of Bawa Nar-Hari Dass Ji Maharaj.
The main complex of the Narsingh temple comprises the shrines of Asht Dasha , Durga, Dharam Raja and Lord Hanuman. There is a huge pond near the temple. The temple priest is accorded the status of Maha Mandaleshwar. The Maha Mandleshwar Gaddi is also known as Amarnath Jammu-Kashmir Nagar Khalsa.
The main festival is the Kumbh Mela. It is conducted during the time of Kumbh Mela at Nasik, Haridwar, Ujjain and Prayagraj. Thousands of devotees visit the temple and stay here for more than one month.
Janmashthami along with a grand mela is celebrated for eight days. Another grand Rathakhara Mela is celebrated in the town with great pomp and show in the month of December every year.
By road, Narsingh Ji Temple can be approached on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway and is 35 km from Kathua. Regular bus services are available from Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur and Pathankote. Ghagwal Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
