Dorje Chenmo Temple is situated at Shey, a historic village in
Leh District of
Jammu and Kashmir. The presiding deity is known by the name Dorje Chenmo.
This Buddhist temple is renowned for its exquisite wall paintings, believed to be more than 350 years old. The collections include some rare paintings of deities such as Dhyani Buddha, Avlokitesvara, Guru Padmasambhava, Paldan Lamo and Dorje Chenmo. These paintings are now subject to a conservation project conducted by UNESCO and Namgyal Research Institute on Ladakhi Art and Culture (NIRLAC), with the active support of the local residents.
